This project is a pioneer initiative targeting the development of a Municipal Solid Waste Decision Support System. At the end of the project a solid waste management system will be established for the 9 cities of the El Menya governorate. This is a joint effort of UNDP and the Italian Cooperation to provide best-practices and to develop a Decision Support System (DSS) based on a Geographical Information System (GIS).

The GIS/DSS project component is carried-on by IT Synergy in coordination with the project team and under the supervision of the Minya Governorate and the Italian Cooperation. This component has been completed and showed to the project final workshop in November 2007, being the final deliverable a fully fledged Decision Support System to help decision makers of the Minya Governatorate in the planning of a systemic scheme for the management of municipal solid wastes. The final objective is the improvement of the environment and therefore the quality of life for the citizens living in the governorate.
