MonitoringWe take full responsibility for the VoIP network which we have established for the UNDP; what this means in practise is that we have instituted a system for performing remote node monitoring services which alert our support technicians to availability issues and other potential problems. Naturally for a company which advertises itself as an open source-friendly operation and for an open standards-based network, we employ the open Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) for this purpose. SNMP is an active protocol, meaning that it reports back to the monitoring system on the health of the entire network, an activity which provides the information resources which we depend on for our 24/7 support service which, like our research and development activities takes place in Egypt. Note that this monitoring system also detects generic connectivity issues which, though not directly pertinent to the project still impacts performance and thus is included in our service.
