The FrutiVeg Egypt Fair, the first gathering of all large players in the Egyptian flower and fresh produce from the agricultural sector, held in Cairo from the 11th to the 14th of January, presented visitors with a great deal of information at one's disposal. Among the stands, which varied greatly, presenting things as varied as flowers and technological solutions for packing and transporting, IT Synergy teamed with the Italian Cooperation, the Green Corridor initiative and the West Nubaria Development Project to show its latest traceability development. In the Italian Embassy stand a number of Egyptian and Italian companies provided information about the services they provide. IT Synergy presented Geo-Trace, a geo-traceability solution for tracking all kind of goods, fully developed in Egypt. Geo-Trace is a full georeferenced traceability solution which not only passes all requirements for the exportation of goods into Italy and other countries in the European Union, but also extends this model, compiling all information available, so each producer, customer and exporter can know all he can about a specific product, down to the parcel of land where it was grown, to the temperatures which it passed through on its container. The information is finally delivered to the end consumer who can easily access it through the Internet. IT Synergy also showed the real time temperature monitoring system that is incorporated to the solution. Monitoring is obtained by inserting one or more sensors, of the size of a small coin, inside the packages. Data gathered can later easily download into a PC or a mobile phone and uploaded automatically to Geo-Trace. IT Synergy produced this in-house solution following its ideals of always using Open source software, and continues to extend and improve the standards of this solution for the betterment of all farmers and customers.
